Review of film: “PINEAPPLE EXPRESS” -- Non-stop Voyage To TRIPPY Humor

Review of film:   “PINEAPPLE EXPRESS --  Non-stop Voyage To TRIPPY Humor =

                         [ RATING:  6.5 of 10 stars ]

Date Rated: Jul 25, 2008 | Rel. Date: Aug 6, 2008
This R-rated film was done by some of the people responsible for “SUPERBAD”, a film I found really hilarious. Very simply, this film is NOWHERE near that level. All the major characters do a basically good job in their roles: SETH ROGEN (also one of the writers) plays stoner process-server Dale Denton...

...  His “loopy” weed dealer Saul (JAMES FRANCO) introduces him to a super high-quality product (for which this film is named), and that illegal drug causes Dale to be fingered as a witness to a drug-related murder. Panicking, Dale warns Saul that they need to escape from the murderers...

...  There are a bunch of wacky, far-fetched, overly VIOLENT interactions with Saul’s “higher-up” dealer Red (played by DANNY R. McBRIDE) and various of the bad guys who keep chasing them...

...  While the film has a number of somewhat funny scenes, they’re more SILLY than special or clever, & the film too often veers towards being repetitive, “dis-jointed” and pointless...

...  The movie’s not bad, but it was a disappointment.
