REPORT # 07 re  45th CHICAGO INT’L FILM FESTIVAL

Here’s some more details on FREE events at this year’s [2009] Festival:

October 11  (Sunday):

There is a FREE panel discussion about film SHORTS called “LIFE IS SHORT” scheduled for 4 PM at the Claudia Cassidy Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington).  But, there was a typo ERROR in the brochure re the date, which originally said it was on Saturday. I had the Festival CHECK on this for me, & they’ve said that the PROPER date is really SUNDAY the 11th…

October 16  (Friday):

Thousands of women have turned up killed in Juarez, Mexico since 1993, & that subject was the basis of a movie called “BACKYARD” by filmmaker CARLOS CARRERA.  On this day, Mr. Carrera will hold a discussion at the National Museum of Mexican Art (1852 W. 19th St.) with artworks curator DOLORES MERCADO on the subject of “WOMEN OF JUAREZ” (= RASTROS Y CRONICAS)…

(The Museum currently has an exhibition of art recording the struggles brought on by the deaths).  They will discuss the subject of “translating tragedy into art” in their talk which is FREE to the public.  Best to call the Museum as to their planned START time for the event.)
