I was quite bothered to hear certain reviewers put down this film about an assassination attempt on Hitler saying, there was no “point” to making it since “we know how it turned OUT”...

... In that case, why make ANY film about an historical event or person?!..

...  That short-sighted view ignores the fact this film IS a successful “thriller”, in the careful way things are planned and executed including strategies for running the country AFTER the removal of Hitler...

...  TOM CRUISE is effective as plotter Von Stauffenberg, as are KENNETH BRANAGH, TOM WILKINSON, TERENCE STAMP (as Beck), BILL NIGHY, EDDIE IZZARD and others...

...  Early in the film, a comment is made on how military plans often FAIL to work as designed (as we’ve clearly seen by numerous contemporary actions instigated by Emperor George the Oblivious)...

...  The movie is not "great", but it’s well constructed, well acted, interesting and a good starting point to learn how not everyone backed Hitler’s madness (witness the 15 or so attempts to remove him).
