Review of film: “FOUR CHRISTMASES” – Being 2 Real, “You can’t spell ‘FAMILIES’ without ‘-LIES’!”2

Review of film:  FOUR CHRISTMASES Being 2 Real, “You can’t spell "FAMILIES" without "-LIES"! =

Date Rated: Nov 20, 2008 | Rel. Date: Nov 26, 2008

(Based on an advance preview:) That line quoted above is used a number of times in this comedy starring VINCE VAUGHN and REESE WITHERSPOON as a long-time couple who are resolutely AGAINST getting married or having kids...

...  As the Holiday time approaches, they make plans to leave the country to AVOID getting together with their four divorced and estranged parents (and siblings). Bad weather (and live TV news programs) “conspire” to change their plans and force them to deal with their extended family members...

...  As time goes on, you see all the LIES and omissions that have been built up between them as a pair and with the family members...

...  This is NOT a “sweetness and light” type of comedy-- there are a bunch of FUNNY (often slapstick-y) incidents and comments, but the family relationships tend to be more toxic than “warm and fuzzy”. The leads do a very good job in their roles, and it’s that often-realistic interplay that causes me to rate the film as I have.
