Review of film: “THE SCORE"
... Shortly after the above fiasco, another radio station (WTMX = "The Mix") hosted a Sneak Preview for the heist film “THE SCORE" at 600 N. Michigan. For this showing, there were no non-entry hassles, the film started on time, & it had a well-written, wonderfully-acted interplay by the cast (ROBERT DE NIRO, MARLON BRANDO & EDWARD NORTON)...
... This was no sloppy "Topkapi”— this was a cleverly-crafted pleasure to behold, with TWISTS, turns & unexpected attitudes (such as Norton's worrying that changes [in the original plans] made the caper unfeasible to accomplish)...
... One little problem: After about 90% of the film was over, right in the middle of the CLIMACTIC customs-house- robbery scene, with about 15 minutes still to go in the story, the negative started to literally BURN in the projector!...
... They tried to fix things, but things were just too badly burned to be able to splice things together for the Sneak Preview... So, I had to go home having NO IDEA just how “THE SCORE" ENDED! Maddening (-- tho it certainly wasn't the radio station's fault in this case)!...
... With a “replacement” ticket, around a week later, I was finally able to see the CONCLUSION to the film (at a comfortable 20-screen “stadium seating” layout just south of Woodfield Mall [in the NW Chicago area]...
... The film was “worth” the unexpected wait, with its double-cross ending & all... So, “THE SCORE” becomes a film rated at 8.75 [out of 10 stars], for its cleverness & joyful, LIVELY performances...
