Review of film:  “SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS”  =  A TRIP YOU SHOULD TAKE!

      Since late December of 2011, I’ve been very busy with a large “PERSONAL” project which

has caused me to vastly defer my reviewing the numerous NEW movies I’ve seen in the “midst”

of my project...

...  While working on that venture, I chanced to come across some OLDER work I’d done

regarding Reviews in 1998 & 2000... 

...  Thus, at this time, I’m going to take some time out to share one of those older efforts, in the 

form of a Review done in 1998 under the heading of “SLICK FLICK PICKS: MOVIES ON VIDEO” (which,at that time, meant on VHS cassette tapes!), as basically written more than 13 years ago:

       

“ ...  The weather outside is getting frightful (here & there), and movies can be so delightful (now & then)...   It may well be time to consider staying IN-doors, and inviting some friends over to share your flick picks!

“ ...  To help you choose, I’m offering the news that you’ve nothing to lose:  there ain’t no dues--  you just get my personal views of what’s “OUT there” on video.  And, if you don’t agree with my opinions?--  Just remember-- they’re worth every cent you “paid” for them!...

Review of film:  “SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS”  =  A TRIP YOU SHOULD TAKE!          

This [98-minute] film [directed by IVAN REITMAN] stars the person who [at the time the film was released on June 12 in 1998 was the] # 1 all-time box-office champ-- who’s appeared in films grossing more than $ 3 billion.  I’m talking about HARRISON FORD, in a rare and delightful comedy performance...

...  He plays a woebegone charter pilot [named Quinn Harris] on a South Seas island vacation spot. He’s visited by Dazzle magazine’s self-confident Assistant Editor [named Robin Monroe], played by ANNE HECHE (giving a finely crisp presentation) and her lover, [Frank Martin, played by] DAVID SCHWIMMER (who’s pleasantly un-“FRIEND”-ly in that he’s non-nerdy & believable [in this role]).

...  Now, I’m not saying Harrison is klutzy--  but, as the well-written script puts it, he is NOT the type of guy who, if you send him out with a Q-tip and a pocket knife, will build you a shopping mall... 

...  Harrison agrees to take Anne on a trip to a planned photo shoot, the plane [he’s piloting] crashes, and they have all kinds of major and minor PROBLEMS (including with some buccaneer buckaroos).

...  As the [two of them] are stranded and [become] the subject of searches, [back at the island headquarters], Schwimmer smilingly sees himself getting sensually involved with Ford’s shapely girlfriend [Angelica, played by JACQUELINE OBRADORS)-- not knowing that his own girlfriend (Heche) is getting similarly involved, since FORD is fast becoming a “Better Idea” [in Anne’s mind]...

...  So— [if you] rent (or buy) the video, [you can] find out why Harrison caustically comments at one point, “You know how a person gets a man excited?-- She SHOWS UP!”... 

...  [You can also] learn what Harrison does that causes Anne to warn him, “I’d better not catch you smiling!”...   [And] discover what causes her to set a palm tree on fire...

...  It’s fun, it’s funny, it’s a raucously WELL-DONE romantic comedy, which is why I’m rating it at 8.0 out of 10 stars.  Enjoy!...
